Anti-ageing tips: what really helps against skin ageing

15 June 20268 min read

Skin ageing is part of life – and let's be honest: no cream, device or treatment stops time. But how your skin ages is something you can certainly influence. A good part of what we call 'getting older' is not age but accumulated damage – mainly from the sun. And damage can be limited, prevented and partly tackled. These are the steps that, by broad consensus, make the most difference, without empty promises.

Protect your skin from the sun – every day

It sounds like a mantra by now, but it remains the core: of all external factors, UV radiation contributes by far the most to visible skin ageing – think fine lines, pigmentation spots and loss of firmness. Daily broad-spectrum SPF is therefore the best-supported, most accessible and cheapest anti-ageing measure there is. Everything else you do works better on skin that is protected.

Support collagen production

Collagen is the protein that keeps the skin firm and springy. From around your mid-twenties the natural production gradually declines – a normal process you can't stop, but can support.

Professional treatments that stimulate your own collagen production, such as microneedling and the Collagen Thread Lift, are most often used for this – usually as a course, because building collagen is a process of weeks to months. At home, proven ingredients such as retinol (provided it is built up gradually) contribute to skin renewal.

Build up active ingredients sensibly

Anyone who wants to 'get serious about anti-ageing' often starts enthusiastically with retinol, acids and vitamin C all at once – and gives up disappointed after two weeks of irritated skin. A shame, because these are exactly the ingredients that call for patience: start with a low concentration, a few evenings a week, and build up over months. Building up slowly isn't a delay – it's the only route you can sustain.

Hydration: from within and from outside

Well-hydrated skin looks fuller and smoother straight away – fine lines are less noticeable in skin that holds moisture well. Work from two sides: from the outside with a serum and cream that hold moisture, from the inside by drinking enough.

Lifestyle: the silent factor

Some lifestyle factors show clearly in the skin in the long run:

  • Smoking is widely linked to accelerated skin ageing and a sallow complexion

  • Excessive alcohol consumption dries out the skin and strains its recovery

  • Chronic lack of sleep slows down the skin's overnight repair process

  • Long-term stress affects sebum production and recovery through stress hormones – more on that in our article about stress and your skin

What you can realistically expect

Be critical of anyone who makes you smooth promises: no treatment or product stops skin ageing, and results differ from person to person. What a good approach can do: visibly support the condition of your skin, partly tackle accumulated damage and prevent new damage. That is exactly why during an intake we tell you honestly what is achievable for your skin – and what isn't.

The most effective anti-ageing approach is surprisingly down-to-earth: daily protection, sensible care, a healthy lifestyle and, where desired, professional support that activates your skin's own strength. Curious what makes sense for your skin? We'll gladly look at it honestly with you during a free intake.
