A facial actually begins before you walk through our door. Not that much is asked of you – we do most of the work – but with a few simple preparations you make sure your skin is optimally ready for the treatment and that you enjoy it to the full. This is what you can do beforehand, and just as important: what you're better off not doing.
Preferably come without make-up
Every treatment starts with a thorough cleanse, so make-up isn't a problem – but without make-up we can start straight away with the skin analysis and have more time left for the treatment itself. Can't manage it, for example because you're coming straight from work? No problem at all.
What to leave alone in the days beforehand
In the days before your appointment it's best to leave your skin in peace – don't 'prepare' it extra with intensive products. In practice that means:
No aggressive scrubs or peels in the two to three days beforehand – the treatment already exfoliates, and doubling up irritates
Don't try out new active products (such as retinol or acids) just before your appointment
No sunbeds and no long sunbathing sessions – on sunburnt or freshly tanned skin we sometimes have to adjust or postpone the treatment
Preferably no tweezing, waxing or laser on the face just before a facial
Tell us about medication, pregnancy and skin conditions
Some medicines (such as blood thinners or certain acne medication), pregnancy and active skin conditions can affect which treatment is responsible. So always mention this beforehand or at the start of the intake – we would rather adjust the treatment plan than put unnecessary strain on your skin. Everything you share stays between us, of course.
Plan smartly around your appointment
After a more intensive treatment (such as a peel or microneedling) the skin can be slightly red or sensitive for a day or two. If you have an important occasion – a wedding, photo shoot or presentation – don't schedule the treatment in the days before, but well in advance. With a regular nourishing facial this matters much less: you can usually go straight anywhere afterwards.
Unsure about the timing? When booking, just say what you're coming for and we'll help you think about the smartest moment.
Be on time – and preferably a little early
Especially at a first appointment we deliberately take time for a proper intake conversation: how does your skin normally react, what do you use at home, where do you want to get to? If you arrive a few minutes early, you start the treatment calmly instead of rushed – and relaxation is secretly part of the effect.
Afterwards: give your skin a rest
Straight after the treatment your skin is clean, well supplied with blood and receptive. Give it a rest: preferably wait until the next morning to wear make-up, skip intensive active products that evening and avoid sauna and heavy exercise. After every treatment we give you personal aftercare advice, matched to what we did.
You don't need to do much to prepare – mainly a few things you should simply not do. Questions beforehand about your specific situation? Feel free to ask when booking or via WhatsApp, we're happy to think along with you.
